A plea for men of all religions to be faithful to their creeds while in their churched but to submerge their individual beliefs in the tolerance of Americanism, was made by Rabbi Aaron Elseman at the fourth annual memorial service of the Shomrim Society of the Police Department.
The service, held in memory of those members of the department who died during the last year, took place in Mount Neboh Temple Sunday. The 250 Jewish members of the department who attended the memorial as sembled at the 152d street police station on marched to the synagogue with the police band and Glee Club.
Commissioner Warren recalled that of the seven policemen killed last year whil? on duty, three were Jewish. These were Detective Sergeant Benjamin Canto and Detective Morris Goerkin and Detective John Singer.
