A Polish developer reportedly won approval for a visitors center near the former Auschwitz death camp. The developer had dropped earlier plans for a mini-mall across from the camp site after Jewish officials and Holocaust survivors said it would desecrate the memory of the 1.5 million people who died at Auschwitz. The planned visitors center will house fast-food restaurants, a post office, bank and a bookstore devoted to the history of Auschwitz.
