A public prosecutor whose name is being kept secret for security reasons has been appointed by the Dutch government to investigate the time bombs discovered recently in various Dutch cities. The decision was announced Sunday by the Minister of Justice who promised vigorous action but warned that “an open society cannot fully protect everybody.” One of the time bombs exploded near the entrance of the Holiday Inn Hotel in Utrecht on Oct. 4 and another was discovered and dismantled on Oct. 17 near the offices of the Israel Zim shipping company and the offices of the Bank of America in Rotterdam. Other bombs have been found in Leyden and Eindhoven. A group calling itself “Netherlands Revolutionary Popular Front,” a branch of the Marxist-Leninist organization “Red Youth,” has claimed responsibility for the bombs. The government has declined to comment on this claim.
