A rabbi was stabbed in Jerusalem’s Old City.
An assailant, presumed to be a Palestinian terrorist, stabbed the rabbi Tuesday as he was walking through the Damascus Gate en route to an Old City yeshiva.
The rabbi suffered moderate wounds and was taken to Jerusalem’s Hadassah Hospital. His bodyguard chased the assailant but failed to catch him. A police manhunt is under way.
Israeli media said the rabbi is 49 years old but did not immediately provide more details.
Tensions in Jerusalem have been seething since a Palestinian gunman killed eight students at the Mercaz HaRav yeshiva before being shot dead. Many Palestinians welcomed the outrage as revenge for Israeli military offensives in the Gaza Strip, and Jerusalem police are on alert for more violence.
