A resolution censuring a Communist lawmaker for his anti-Semitic remarks failed to pass the Russian Parliament. The leftist and ultranationalist majority blocked the resolution condemning Viktor Ilyukhin, who said earlier this week that Jews in Russian President Boris Yeltsin’s inner circle were responsible for “large-scale genocide” against the Russian people. Ilyukhin, meanwhile, denied that his remarks were anti-Semitic.
