A Russian-born American Jew was named the new head of the Yukos oil giant following its chief’s resignation. Simon Kukes will replace Yukos founder Mikhail Khodorkovsky, who announced his resignation as Yukos chief executive Monday night in a move he said was aimed at shielding his company from legal attack. Khodorkovsky, who is Jewish, remains in a Moscow prison after he was arrested on charges of fraud and tax evasion late last month.
