A senior government source said Israel is close to meeting with Saudi Arabian officials. Israel is “not far from a photo op with the Saudis,” said the source, according to a report in Ha’aretz. The source added that talks with the Saudis via a third party have been taking place for some time. The comments come following the unprecedented visit of Egypt’s Ahmed Aboul Gheit and Jordan’s Abdelelah Al-Khatib to Jerusalem Wednesday. During the meeting, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert stressed the importance of other Arab countries joining the peace process, a probable reference to Saudi Arabia.
