A Spanish musical based on the “Diary of Anne Frank” will debut next month in Madrid.
A 13-year-old girl will appear in the title role — Anne Frank was that age when she began to write her famous diary.
The Anne Frank Foundation is supporting the endeavor, which will have a cast of 22.
Cast members visited the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam to help them understand their characters and to perform songs from the musical for museum staff.
The musical project represents a decade of effort to gain the endorsement of the foundation, director Rafael Alvero told Britain’s Guardian newspaper. Alvero compared the production to a tragic opera.
