A state-wide activity for the establishment of religions schools in the extensive rural districts of California has been undertaken by the California State Federation of Temple Sisterhoods.
The program calls for the formation of at terhoods in the rural centers and these groups will work in co-ordination with the religious school authorities. It is planned to have one or more held workers or regional rabbis in supervision of the Jewish educational work in the rural territories.
For years Jewish children living in rural districts of California have been without religious education save for correspondence courses which have been sent to them by Congregation Emanu-El of San Francisco and other institutions.
Much has been said from time to time about forming religious schools in central points in the rural territories but no action was taken until the steps decided upon by the recent annual meeting of the State Federation of Temple Sisterhoods held in San Francisco.
