A synagogue on the Greek island of Crete is slated to reopen in September after undergoing extensive rebuilding. The Etz Chaim Synagogue, located in the city of Chania, was destroyed by the Nazis along with the island’s Jewish community. The synagogue, originally a church, was given to the community in 1645.
