A U.S. congressman criticized Latvia and Lithuania for failing to prosecute alleged Nazi war criminals. U.S. Rep. Tom Lantos, the only Holocaust survivor serving in Congress, said during a two-day visit to the region that the Baltic republics have not kept their promises to bring Nazis to justice. Lantos also called on Latvia to request the extradition of Konrad Kalejs, a Latvian-born Australian citizen who is accused of aiding in the slaughter of thousands of Jews during World War II. On Thursday, Kalejs left Britain for Australia.
