A U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee approved funds for Israel and the Palestinians. The powerful Appropriations Committee’s foreign operations subcommittee approved standard levels of assistance for a number of Middle East countries last Thursday and doubled assistance for the Palestinians, to $150 million, per President Bush’s request. That $150 million is in addition to the same amount approved earlier this year in emergency assistance to the Palestinians. The subcommittee also approved the expected $2.28 billion in military assistance to Israel, as well as funds for Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon.
