Rabbi Ira Eisenstein, president of the Rabbinical Assembly of America, central body of the Conservative rabbis, today issued a statement declaring that the endorsement of the candidacy of Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower, Republican Presidential candidate, by Maxwell Abbell of Chicago, was “a personal one” and did not reflect the official stand of the United Synagogues of America, of which Mr. Abbell is president.
Rabbi Eisenstein emphasized that the Rabbinical Assembly of America and the United Synagogues of America, the two leading organs of Conservative Judaism, have taken no official stand on any of the Presidential candidates.
