Funeral services were held here today for Abraham Goldberg, managing editor of the Warsaw Jewish daily, Hajnt, since it was founded in 1908. Mr. Goldberg, who died here late Tuesday night at the age of 52, was well known as a worker in the Zionist movement and as a member of the Polish Zionist Executive.
The funeral cortege was followed by a large number of representatives of Warsaw Jewish organizations and members of the Jewish community. Mr. Goldberg was buried in a grave in a section of the Warsaw Jewish cemetery reserved for prominent Jewish writers.
The noted Jewish editor was born in Brisk, Lithuania, in 1881, the son of a Hebrew teacher, who was one of the pioneers in the Zionist movement. He was educated by his father and began his career in journalism by contributing articles to the Hebrew publications, Hazfira and Hamelitz. Later he edited the Warsaw Jewish dailies, Morgen Blatt and Last Post.
When the Hajnt was founded, Mr. Goldberg became editor, a post he kept until his death. He was noted as a consistent and staunch defender of the Zionist viewpoint. He visited the United States a few years ago. A brother, Menachim Boreisha, noted Yiddish poet and playwright, lives in New York.
