Morris Abram, a New York lawyer who is chairman of the National Conference on Soviet Jewry, has been elected to a one year term as chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, succeeding Kenneth Bialkin whose second term expires
The Presidents Conference voted at the same time Monday to appoint Malcolm Hoenlein its new executive director. He will succeed the late Yehuda Hellman who died last month.
Abram, a former president of Brandeis University and of the American Jewish Committee, is currently vice chairman of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. He is a former U.S. representative to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights
