COMMUNICATION TO THE EDITOR

Sir:

In your issue of November 18, 1928, you set forth a report supposed to have come to you from Albany to the effect that the up-state Republican Counties defeated Mr. Ottinger in the recent election and, in specifically enumerating these counties, you included the County of Onondaga.

The writer has no knowledge as to the source of your information, but begs leave to call your attention to a letter received by Mr. N. Wesley Markson under date of November 15th from Mr. Albert Ottinger in which be said: “I deeply appreciate your touching telegram. It is typical of you. I know that your heart and soul were fired by your unquenchable spirit. You were always on the firing line working every minute. If Erie Country had shown results comparable with Onondaga, all would be undoubtedly well.”

From this communication you will observe that Mr. Ottinger was entirely satisfied with the results attained in Onondaga County and under the circumstances, it is quite incomprehensible to the writer as to how your correspondent ever got the information to transmit to you, which cannot help but reflect some discredit on the County of Onondaga.

Your news item in this respect was entirely unfounded and as it served no useful purpose, in the mind of the writer, it would seem to be entirely in order for you to make some correction or retraction of the statement to which this communication has reference.

Yours very truly.

JESSE E. CANTOR.

P. S.–The official figures, just made public by the Board of Supervisors today, show that Mr. Ottinger ran over 17,000 votes ahead of Mr. Roosevelt in Onondaga County.
