A legal precedent was established here today when Boris Gonpolsky and Meir Rezsnick, formerly of Russia, were acquitted on charges of having unlawfully reentered Palestine August 28, 1933, following their expulsion the previous month.
The two men received immigration certificates at Trieste and returned to Palestine prior to the promulgation of a new immigration ordinance August 31.
The magistrate before whom the case was heard ruled that the old law, providing that a charge is invalid if lodged later than three months after the offense, was applicable, while the Trieste visas abrogated the previous deportation orders. Lawyers and jubilant spectators crowded the courtroom.
