The standing committee of the World Zionist Actions committee today approved the distribution of the 20 seats on the Jewish Agency’s executive. The group assigned six seats to Mapai, four to the Union of General Zionists, three to the Confederation of General Zionists, three to Mizrachi, two to Herut and one each to Mapam and Achdut Avoda. The labor parties abstained on the voting on the seat distributions, due to the inclusion of Herut.
Aryeh L. Pincus, until now acting chairman of the executive, was endorsed for the candidacy for the permanent chairmanship by the Mapai and Achdut Avoda factions of the Zionist movement. He will continue also in the post of Agency treasurer. The two factions also nominated Yitzhak Ben-Aharon as head of the Youth Aliyah Department, succeeding Moshe Kol, who is now in the new Israel Government Coalition Cabinet as Minister of Development and Tourism; and Avraham Cygel as head of the Absorption Department, succeeding Moshe Erem, who is retiring.
