Activities of American Jewish Woman in Social, Communal, Religious Aspects

Miss Miller stated that the period of grace will be up in June, and then ”the State Departent of Labor can clamp down on the employer violator.” The women’s Trade Union league is assisting strikers of some brooklyn laundries where it was revealed that wages ranged from $6 to $9 a week.

REFUGEES AIDED

Commiteees on service ot foreingn born of the National Concil of Jewish reprot assistance ot Germann immigrants recently sattled in the United States. Immigrants are enrolled in English classes given naturalization aid, assistaed in any way neccessary. Throughout the country refugess have made happy adjustments to community life, according to the committees. Recently American News, a newspaper for the foringn born, was was sent to all sections of the Council maintaining classes for foringn born as leason material The paper is edited by the language Resarch Jnstitute of New York University and based on Swanson’s 900 word English voacabulary.

Springfield, Mass., Council held its unnual formal dance on Wednesday. Mrs. Samuel Simons ws general chaiman. Proceeds will be used for the organization’s philanthropic work, which includes a free dental clinic for needy children.

Perth Amboy section of the Counsil plans a serices of bridge parties for the benifit of children whose families cannot a ord eye glasses for hem. This project is an effshoct of the work of miss Mary E. Richeson who has been truying to rasise sufficient funds for the work for the past for years.

LECTURE EN SEX EDUCATION

For those imerested in Sex Education and our Youth” there willl be a most interesting lecture on the subject of Dr. Josephine Kenyon at a meeting of the Woman’s Organization of the free Synagogue on Tuesday afternoon at 2: 15. Dr. Kenyon is recognized as one of the distinguished leaders in the field of sex education and sex hygiene. He courses at Columbia University are always over crowed. In this ecture Dr. Kenyon boys and girls, and the pre-marital problems of youth. The meeting to be held at the Free Synagogue building, 40 West 68th Street, will include discussion and will be followed by a tea.

CONVENTION ACCOMPLISHMENTS

More than 2,000 women assembled at the convention of the Federation of Jewish Women’s Organization at the Astor this week. Besides endorsing the Geraman boycott and deciding to militate against the pread of Nazi progapanda in this country, the went on record for pease and for the adoption of the Tydings resolution. United in common cause, the reperesentatives of 200 organizations pleaded earnestly of humanrianism.

HADSSAH REOPENS SCHOOL

New Work chapter of Handassah announces the reopening of the school of the Jewish Women. Lectures on the Hebrew languge and Jewish history, registrar, may be reached fro information mornings and afternoons at the Hadassah office, 125 Est 85th Street.

Bufflo chapter of Hadsanh reprerts a girt of Hadassah repors a gift of $5,000 to the building fund of the propsed Hadassah-University Hospital in Jerusalem. Mrs. Edward Jacobs of New York is chaiman of organinzation work for this campagign committees or club women, physicans, scientist and educators will conduct local campaigns. The total amount in contributions in $5,884.
