West Germany’s Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, who is due to retire in two weeks, has contributed $1,000 to plant 500 trees in Israel in his honor.
Dr. Adenauer sent his contribution to William Wertheimer of Brooklyn, who is chairman of a special Jewish National Fund effort for raising money to plant the Adenauer Forest as part of the JNF’s reclamation work in Israel. Mr. Wertheimer received a special Medal of Mer it from the West German Government last winter for his efforts toward better understanding. A soldier in the German army during World War I, Mr. Wertheimer, now an American citizen, was a member of the United States Army Medical Corps in World War II.
