West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer today told the National Press Club that in his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion they did not touch on the question of establishment of formal diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Dr. Adenauer said he and Mr. Ben-Gurion had a talk that was warm, frank, and hearty on both sides. He stressed that the fact that this talk took place was of very great importance to the very excellent relations that already exist between Israel and West Germany.

Dr. Adenauer also said that in spite of anti-Semitic activities in West Germany he wanted to assure that West Germany is a democratic state. He said each and every citizen of the Jewish faith enjoys the same rights and privileges as other citizens. He emphasized that the recent swastika-smearing outbreak and similar incidents did not amount to the extent that some believe but they still happened.
