Backing came today from the Anti-Defamation League for educators and others refusing to participate in an educators’ meeting scheduled to be held at the Lake Placid Club, in Lake Placid. According to Arnold Forster, civil rights director of the ADL, the Lake Placid Club maintains a "restrictive membership and guest policy" discriminating against Jews, but drops that policy during "off-season" months to attract convention business.
The ADL statement was issued after Dr. Alice V. Kelliher, Professor of Education at New York University, and New York State Attorney General Jacob K. Javits had withdrawn as scheduled speakers before next month’s convention of the New York State Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. The choice of the club as the place for the convention was also questioned by Charles Cogen, president of Local 2 of the Teachers Guild, AFL.
