Adlai E. Stevenson, chairman of the United States delegation here, does not think that the possibilities for stabilization of the Arab-Israeli situation in the Middle East “are particularly brilliant.” He was asked for his comment on such possibilities at a luncheon yesterday of the United Nations Correspondents Association. His reply was:
“I cannot say those possibilities are particularly brilliant. But I live in hope that some time, these people, who are sensible, will perceive the danger of a situation in which escalation is being perpetuated, a condition which is hazardous not only to the parties in the area but also to the rest of the world.”
