Admiral Lewis 1. Strauss, chairman of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, and Philip M. Klutznick, national president of the B’nai B’rith, today received honorary degrees at a ceremony at Dropsie College. Admiral Strauss was awarded the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. Mr. Klutz-nick received the degree of Doctor of Hebrew Letters.
Admiral Strauss was cited by the president of the College, Dr. Abraham A. Neuman, for having rendered “distinguished service to” our country as chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and in other capacities, and for having devoted himself energetically and earnestly to Judaism and Jewish learning.” Mr. Klutznick received the degree in recognition of his “dynamic leadership of the B’nai B’rith and other Jewish causes, and the far-sighted vision of his program for the promotion of Jewish culture in America.”
