Egyptian laborers are still admitted to Palestine despite the suspension of the labor schedule, but the immigration officer does not grant permission for their entry unless he is satisfied that laborers are needed and such types cannot be found in Palestine, Dr. Drummond Shiels, under-secretary for the colonies, admitted today in the House of Commons, replying to a question from Commander Kenworthy.
Dr. Shiels said that prospective employers of these laborers are placed under a bond to secure the repatriation of such laborers as soon as the authorized period of their stay, which is usually less than three months, has expired. Under this arrangement, 285 foreign laborers have been admitted since January.
