Adolf Eichmann’s deputy is slated to be tried in absentia in a French court, beginning Friday, for deporting at least 250 Jews to Auschwitz in 1944. If still alive — he would be 88 years old — Alois Brunner is believed to be hiding in Syria. Brunner is held responsible for deporting 140,000 Jews to concentration camps.
