German Jews who find it impossible to remain in Germany under present conditions must emigrate, Max Warburg, leading Hamburg banker, yesterday declared before the annual meeting of the Hilfsverein (German Jewish aid society), of which he is an officer.
Mr. Warburg said:
“The Hilfsverein stands on the ground that German Jews want to stay in their home land, Germany, whose future is theirs, hoping to secure a dignified continuation of life. But if the German Jews find it impossible to remain in Germany for economic reasons and for the future of their children, the need arises to emigrate.”
Mr. Warburg urged careful preparation prior to such emigration, and declared that the Hilfsverein is doing much in this direction.
Other speakers paid tribute to the co-operation of the IC and the HICEM. Eugene Landau, the only surviving founder of the Hilfsverein, presided.
