Louis Jacob Affelder, widely known throughout Pennsylvania for his services to charity and to civic institutions, died here Monday of heart disease at the age of 59. He was a leading engineer, and at his death was division contracting manager for the American Bridge Company.
Settlement work among the poor was one of his chief interests. He was president of the Irene Kaufmann Settlement for 15 years and was recently the chairman of the settlement’s building committee. He was also treasurer of the Rodef Shalom congregation, first vice-president of the Public Health Nursing Association and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
