Continuation of the anti-German boycott until “there is adequate recognition and protection of the rights of minority groups — political, religious and economic” is urged on the fifty-fifth annual convention of the American Federation of Labor in the report of its Executive Council.
The report, signed by William Green, president of the A.F.L. and the sixteen other officers, declares, “The religious persecution which was attendant on the establishment of a government by force has been especially revolting to those peoples who believe in freedom as the best means for human development.
“To express our abhorrence for the regime which has overthrown the institutions and practices of civic and religious freedom for which nations have struggled for centuries, the American Federation of Labor declared a boycott against German-made goods and German services.
“In declaring this boycott, the American Federation of Labor recognizes the right of the German people to govern themselves in accordance with their own desires, but it resolves upon a policy of non-intercourse until the destruction of the German trade union movement should stop, and that persecution of German working people and religious sects should be terminated. Not only has this persecution not been stopped, but it has been extended during the past year.”
