Jewish industries in Palestine can increase their production for the army provided the military authorities supply the raw materials, Moshe Shertok, head of the political department of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, said at a press conference today.
Stressing the Agency’s active support for the Palestine recruiting campaign, Shertok gave the newspapermen a comprehensive review of the external and internal political situation.
Rallies to encourage recruiting for the British armed forces were held over the weekend in Tel Aviv. Addressing a meeting of drivers and metal workers, Shertok emphasised that the Palestine Jews constituted the largest source of technical power in the Middle East and appealed for full support of the recruiting, especially for the Royal Air Force.
The Histadruth, Palestine Jewish labor federation, issued an appeal to its members to speed up recruiting and announced establishment of a special committee to negotiate with various settlements to increase the number of volunteers.
All members of the Palestine commission of the Zionist General Council have been summoned to a meeting on Wednesday.
