Full agreement on special status in Israel for the Jewish Agency was reached this week-end at a meeting between Government and Jewish Agency leaders Dr. Nahum Goldmann, chairman of the agency, said here prior to his departure for London.
The meeting took place at Zichon Jacob where Finance Minister Eliezer Kaplan is convalescing, and was attended by Premier David Ben Gurion. Dr. Goldmann, Berl Locker, co-chairman of the Agency, and Mrs. Rose Halprin, American member. A second meeting was held later in the day in Tel Aviv. Dr. Goldmann said the status measure would be discussed by the Government and then submitted to Parliament for confirmation.
Benjamin G. Browdy, president of the Zionist Organization of America, returning this week from Jerusalem where he attended the plenary session of the Jewish Agency executive, reported that the Government of Israel will proceed with the granting of a special status to the Jewish Agency. He made this announcement on the basis of information he received in the course of a number of conferences with Prime Minister David Ben Gurion and most members of his cabinet.
