A resolution calling for the reunion of the Mapai Party and Rafi, the dissident, former members of Mapai now led by former Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, was adopted at a meeting here of representatives of both groups from agricultural settlements, at which Ben-Gurion sharply attacked Premier Levi Eshkol.
As a step in the direction of possible reunification of Mapai and Rafi, the meeting named a committee to investigate the possibilities of changing Israel’s electoral system. Such a change has been one of the main issues on which Rafi had split from Mapai.
Although there were still sharp Rafi attacks against the present Government and against Prime Minister Eshkol, at this meeting, the consensus was that efforts toward a new fusion should be continued. The meeting also called on other labor parties to join the effort at labor unity.
