The executive of the World Agudist Organization today called on the Allied Powers to take all necessary measures to prevent the desecration of Jewish cemeteries in all four zones of Germany.
In a memorandum delivered to the British Foreign Office today and to the embassies here of the other three occupying powers, the organization listed 60 such cases which occurred in recent months and quoted one German newspaper as stating that there have been more than 200 such incidents since 1947.
The memoradum included a list of cemetery desecrations compiled from reports in the German press and quoted comments of these papers on the incidents. Despite denunciations of these outrages by many German civic and religious leaders, the memorandum pointed out, the desecrations continue. The situation is so serious, it stated, that the Protestant Church authorities in the Rhineland are listing all Jewish cemeteries in their districts with a view to placing responsibility for the security of some of them on church congregations.
