An appeal to the United States and other Allied countries to allow immigration, under their existing quotas, of Jews from Europe, compled with an appeal to Prime Minister Attlee for the opening of Palestine, were issued here following the 23rd annual convention of the Agudas Israel Youth Council of America.
The convention also asked that the refugees presently held at Fort Ontaria be allowed to become permanent citisens of the United States. The formation of the “Prechelute Haagudati,” which will train orthodex youth here for settlement in Palestine was announced.
Michael G. Tress was re-elected national president of the Agudas Israel Youth Concil, and Rabbi Morris Sherer, executive director. Speakers at the convention insluded Dr. Jacob Rosenheim, president of the Agudas Israel World Organization; Rabbi lease M. Lewin of Palestine; Rabbi Dr. Herbert S. Goldstein, president of the Synagogue Council; Rabbi E. M. Bloch of Cleveland; Rabbi Simon Schwab of Baltimore; and Major Aeron Paperman, Jewish chaplain attached to the American Fifty Army headquarters.
