Allegations that a “negative discriminatory attitude” towards the religious activities of Agudas Israel in the Jewish state is being displayed by the Jewish Agency were made by Israeli delegates attending the eighth annual convention of the Agudah at the King David Hotel here.
The 500 delegates from all parts of the U.S. attending the parley adopted a resolution condemning the “unjust political flavor given by the Jewish Agency to conies raised through the United Jewish Appeal from all Jews under the impression that allocations will similarly benefit all factions.” The convention also proclaimed a $2,000,000 fund-raising campaign for religious activities in Israel.
Earlier, Rabbi E. Block, of Cleveland, a member of the Agudah praesidium, told the convention that Jewish communities in various East European countries face inevitable extinction as a result of the restriction of religious activities and the closing of Jewish religious schools. Newly-elected Rep. Franklin Roosevelt Jr., chairman of the Agudah’s “Seve-A-Child Foundation,” was lauded for his efforts in behalf of the war orphan project.
Rabbi Benjamin W. Hendles, a member of the praesidium, urged the establish-ant of a “religious bloc in this country, patterned after the coalition already exiting in Israel, in which all observant Jews would work unitedly for the furtherance of Orthodox Judaism.”
