The 5lst annual meeting of the Central Conference of American Rabbis was on record today in favor of supporting “the Government of the United States in all measures it is taking to aid the Allies.”
Reaffirming concern with Israel’s historic ideal of peace, the report of the Committee on International Peace, submitted by Chairman Joseph Rauch of Louisville, expressed hope that “the voices of liberalism and justice will not be silenced throughout the world. Regardless of the turn of events, it is our sacred duty to keep our hearts free of bitterness.”
The report advocated a union of Jewish forces before the peace conferences following the present conflict. Among the aims of such united action, it was stated, should be the securing of civil rights for Jewish people everywhere, cessation of evacuation policies instituted against the Jews and the unhindered upbuilding of Palestine.”
The meeting set up a committee on chaplaincy service charged with the duty of cooperation with “all national organizations which seek the cooperation of the Reform rabbinate and prosecution of their work.” The secretary was instructed to send a special message of greeting and encouragement to colleagues “serving congregations in countries now at war and laboring under grave and extraordinary responsibilities.”
