Presentation of “Aida” tonight will mark the opening of the ninth week of the Hippodrome Opera Company. Puccini’s “Manon Lescaut” on June 2 will represent the new addition to the repertory, with Santa Biondo in the title role, and Alessandro Granda and Alfred Chigi in the supporting cast. Giuseppe Bamboschek will conduct.
The first repetition of “Mignon” will take place on Monday night with the original cast, “Andrea Chenier” will have its second performance Friday night, with new principal singers, including Lola Monti-Gorsey, Pasquale Ferrara and Claudio Frigerio.
Director Pasquale Amato promises a revival of Verdi’s “The Masked Ball” for next Sunday night. Operas for the week are as follows (all except Saturday matinee in the evening): Sunday, “Alda”; Monday, “Mignon”; Tuesday, “La Traviata”; Wednesday, “Norma”; Thursday, “Lucia di Lammermoor”; Friday, “Andrea Chenier”; Saturday matinee, “Cavalleria Rusticana”; and “Pagliacci”; Saturday evening, “Manon Lescaut”; Sunday, “Un Ballo in Maschera.”
