Nazi newspapers in Budapest are utilizing the Russian air raids on the Hungarian capital to stir up increased anti-Jewish feelings by alleging that Jews are signalling to the Russian fliers by violating blackout regulations.
The Budapest press reaching here today reports that a member of Jews were fined this week for blackout violations during the recent Russian air attack on the city. The pro-Nazi newspapers carry inciting articles saying that severe punishment should have been imposed upon the Jews. They demand that in the future such cases be handled by the public prosecutor rather than by police courts.
The Budapest daily, Pester Lloyd, which was received here today, reports that the Hungarian government has decreed that 24,000 yolks (approximately 26,000 acres) of Jewish-owned farm property seized by the state from 11,000 small land-owners will not be turned over to Christians by the government, but will be sold by the Jewish proprietors directly. Those entitled to purchase such farms are “Aryan” small farmers, agricultural laborers, war invalids and war orphans.
