Israel Air Force jets bombed four terrorist bases in Lebanon and one terrorist training base deep inside Syria this afternoon, A military spokesman reported that all planes returned safely to their bases. According to Israeli sources, today’s air raids were not in retaliation for specific terrorist actions but represented a new policy of hitting terrorist strong-holds at regular intervals for the cumulative affect such strikes may have.
The targets in Lebanon were two El Fatah strongholds in southeastern Lebanon near the Syrian border and coastal bases for terrorist maritime activities at the mouth of the Litani River and south of the port town of Sidon. The target in Syria was not identified but the air strike was said to have been a deep penetration over Syrian territory.
Last month Israeli planes bombed ten terrorist bases in Syria and Lebanon in air strikes that were a direct aftermath of the murder of 11 Israeli Olympic athletes by Arab terrorists in Munich. Today’s raids were described as designed to damage the terrorist infrastructure including training camps and supply depots with the aim of disrupting terrorist activities and discouraging terrorist recruitment.
