The American Jewish Congress here called today upon French President Georges Pompidou to refrain from creating “an arms imbalance that will further fan the flames of conflict in the Middle East.” This request, in the form of a letter, was delivered to M. Pompidou on his arrival in this city this evening. Prior to his arrival, a protest demonstration was staged in Union Square to protest France’s Middle East arms policy. The letter, written by Joel Brooks, AJ Congress Western Regional director, stated that France’s massive delivery of arms to the Arab states disqualifies France of “credibility as to her neutrality in the Four Power talks concerned with a just and lasting Middle East peace.
