The 100th anniversary of the Akron Jewish community was marked here last night at a special ceremony at which Major General Lewis B. Hershey, national director of Selective Service, was the principal speaker. Governor Frank J. Lausche of Ohio shared the platform with Gen. Hershey.
The anniversary coincides with the completion of 85 years by Temple Israel, the oldest Jewish institution in Akron. The Temple has a membership of 500 families. Dr. J. Marshall Taxay, ordained at the Hebrew Union College, is its rabbi.
