An alert American womanhood can affectively counteract anti-Semitism and threats to democracy, 500 women were told tonight by Mrs. M.L. Goldman, president, at a dinner in the Hotel Delmonico, opening the four-day meeting of the Council of Jewish Women’s national board.
The delegates, representing 65,000 women in 350 sections in the United States and Canada, convened to map plans for intensification of the organization’s program on service to foreign born, international relations and peace, social legislation, social welfare and education.
Mrs. Elizabeth Bass Golding, chairman on social legislation, said the Council’s program for the present year centers around public health opportunities for the lower in-come groups. Other speakers included Dr. Eduard C. Lindeman, professor of social philosophy at the New York School for Social Work, who discussed “Critical Issues in a Democracy Today,” and Mrs. Alexander Wolf, a vice-president of the Council, who presided.
