Youthful Dr. Alexander Safran was today elected Chief Rabbi of Rumania to succeed the late Dr. Jakob Niemirower. He was named by the Congress of Jewish Communities of Old Rumania. A resident of Bacau, Dr. Safran is a graduate of the Vienna Rabbinical Seminary. He is 30 years old and holds the degree Doctor of Philosophy.
