Rabbi H. Cerf Straus of the Gamiluth Chassodim Temple here has accepted a call from the Temple Beth Israel of San Diego, California, where he will assume his duties on September 1. Since coming to Alexandria three years ago, the rabbi has taken an active interest in all communal affairs, non-Jewish as well as Jewish, here, having served as chairman of the Rapides Chapter of the American Red Cross, president of the City Welfare Bureau and president of the Rapides Parish Central Council of Existing Social Agencies, of which he was the organizer.
Rabbi Straus gave his services voluntarily as a teacher of Hebrew at Louisiana College.
