Algeria has officially asked the European Economic Community to indefinitely postpone the Arab-European dialogue which was due to start next month. European diplomats believe the move was motivated by the split within the Arab world over the Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty. The Algerian request for the postponement of the dialogue between the EEC and Arab League members has taken West Europe by surprise.
