More than 1, 000 educators and laymen took part in an all-day celebration today by the Jewish Education Committee of New York, marking the 50th anniversary of organized communal Jewish education in New York City.
The expansion of Jewish education in the city, from its haphazard status at the turn of the century to the present day, was described in an address by Dr. Azriel Eisenberg, executive vice-president of the JEC, which serves as the supervising body for over 750 Jewish schools with a total enrollment of 150, 000 pupils.
