The joint Anglo-American Commission for Political Prisoners and Refugees today announced in Algiers that all persons interned in concentration camps or in compulsory labor camps in North Africa prior to the landing of the Allied forces have been freed.
The commission also announced that all Jewish and other internees who were sent to forced labor constructing the Trans-Sahara railway and in the Kenadza coal mines have left those regions. The sufferings of those internees came to the attention of the Anglo-American commission when Jewish leaders in Algiers complained that the railway labor camps were crammed with Jews.
