All restrictions on civilian traffic to and from Jerusalem were removed today. At the same time, it was announced that two Jewish girls and one adult were killed today as a result of heavy Arab shelling of the Zion Gate area.
Describing rumored plans for the demilitarization of Jerusalem as “idle talk.” Dr. Bernard Joseph, Israeli military governor of the city, today declared that he had no confidence in Arab promises because of past experiences with them.
Dr. Joseph’s statement was made after a broadcast last night over the Transjordan-controlled Ramallah radio to the effect that consular truce commission chairman Rene Neuville and American acting consul general William Burdett had visited the Old City and conferred with its Arab Legion commander, Lt. Col. Abdullah El Tel. After this parley El Tel is alleged to have told Arab newsmen that the truce commission has a new plan for the demilitarization of the city.
