A promise to the Jewish Legionnaires to help them to obtain Government-owned land for settlement purposes was made today by Lord Allenby, commander of the British army which captured Palestine, who visited Rehoboth and Beertuvia. Lord Allenby today was awarded free citizenship of the city of Tel-Aviv by Mayor Dizengoff, in the presence of large, enthusiastic crowds.

In his speech of acceptance, Lord Allenby praised the “Jewish capacity to create great things.” and expressed great admiration for the rapid growth of the Jewish municipality.
