Ground was broken yesterday for the construction of a large building here to house a Jewish teachers seminary to train personnel for schools maintained by the Alliance Israelite Universelle throughout North Africa.
(Jules Braunschvig, vice-president of the Alliance Israelite, who is now on a visit to the United States, today said that the seminary will be the only institution of its kind in North Africa. “Thanks to the Alliance, the Jewish populations of North Africa have about 70 percent of their children in all-day Jewish schools,” Mr. Braunschvig said. He stressed the fact that the remaining children could not be admitted by Alliance schools because of lack of space, and are therefore deprived of a modern education.)
